In the Eyes of My Horse
You know what really makes me happy? It's not winning a ribbon at a show for having the horse with the "best" conformation, the most "talented" horse or being the "best" rider in the eyes of a judge.. What truly makes me happy is my relationship with my horse. My horse is the most wonderful horse in my eyes & I don't want to be the best in the eyes of a judge, I want to be the best in the eyes of my horse. I want our relationship to be strong & meaningful, filled with unwavering love & trust in one another.
Today was yet another day my horse showed me just how strong our bond is. We had a ice storm last night, something Galaxy has never experienced before. I woke up early to check on him & he was so frightened, cars were spinning & squealing their tires trying to climb the icy road on the hill behind my property. The second he saw me he whinnied, came running to me & quickly got as close to me as possible. His eyes were open wide full of fear staring at the cars across the way, he was snorting & huddling close to me for comfort. I stroked his neck & looked into his eye calmy & lovingly, "everything is alright" I told him in a soft voice. He quickly calmed down & fully relaxed in my presence, suddenly the rest of the world had disappeared, nothing else mattered but him & I in that moment.
Galaxy was not alone, he had his horse companions with him, he could have ran to them for comfort but he didn't, he found comfort in me instead. Seeing my horse find comfort & feeling perfectly safe in my presence is what makes me truly happy. I wouldn't trade our relationship for anything. ~ Teagan Zavita
